In 1882, Dr. John Newbrough received spiritual guidance through automatic writing and transcribed Oahspe. This book gives a history of the Earth from man’s arrival on this planet (about 80,000 years ago), reveals the 'Great Flood,' which was the sinking of the continent of Pan in the Pacific Ocean (Lemuria or Mu), up to modern times (1900). It sets into perspective the traditional religions, how they came into being, how their respective eras are drawing to an end, and how man is now to worship the Great Universal Spirit, Jehovih, on an individual basis with no need for an orthodox “church” as an intermediary. Oahspe speaks of the necessity in these times to lead a peaceful lifestyle in small, co-operative, vegetarian communities. It describes the inter-relationship of the spiritual and mortal worlds, the influence of the unseen on the seen, the vastness of the universe in the unseen (Etherean) realms, travel in “starships” therein, and hope for a peaceful future on Earth by describing the essential nature of a new paradigm to come.
